Labour crushed in Redcar by-election

Just got the news through now of a stunning Lib Dem gain from Labour in the Kirkleatham by-election in Redcar, Teeside, in the North East. By-election held yesterday. Here's the result:

John Hannon (Lib Dem) 1031
Paul Dixon (Lab) 486
Brian Mundy (Con) 204
Dawn Castle (BNP) 106

Well done our colleagues in Redcar and Cleveland.

Redcar, Yorkshire, Jonathan not Teesside.

Ted Heath to blame for that, Mr & Mrs Abbott.

Heath is also to blame for the EU, which the Lib Dems are so enthusiastic about.

The EU is also to blame for this.

Interesting that a top Lib Dem MP should jump to his defence.

Wonders will never cease!

This is the second time I've witnessed Chris and Glynis Abbott going mad about the historic Yorkshire boundaries. Why don't you start a campaign to have the County of Cleveland abolished ?

Yes Kevin, Ted Heath was this country's biggest ever traitor. You can't tell me he didn't know the wider aims of the so-called common market when his government entered us into all of this.

I support the Lib Dems locally, but nationally and at European level is where I fall out with them.

There is no aeed to have a campaign to abolish the county of Cleveland Andrea as it was abolised on 1st April 1996 along with Cleveland County Council.

How can you support the Lib Dems locally and baulk at their national policies, Andrea? It just doesn't make sense.

Everything that is done by government nationally, impacts locally.

This is a piece of doublethink!
