I went up to Blackhall Mill this morning with Peter Maughan, our Parliamentary Spokesman for Blaydon constituency, to shoot some video and take photos about Labour's post office closures. 81 branches in northern Durham, Tyne and Wear and Northumberland were proposed for closure but Blackhall Mill was the only one to be saved from the axe.
We got to the village and made the video, but only after I shot some footage of the Derwent coming close to bursting its banks. After that, we went on to Crookhill and Winlaton Mill to shoot the rest of the video and take more photos. Those 2 villages are to see their Post Offices axed.
The instruction to Peter was that we had to run from the car, set up the camera and microphone and do each video clip in one take, then rushy back to the car before we got soaked.
It has of course not stopped raining all day. It's still chucking it down now. The result is that I haven't been to the allotment today. We have potato crops to dig up and broad beans to pick. Perhaps we should have grown water cress instead!
